"I’ve tried a lot of balms over the years, but this one is different. It goes on incredibly smooth, absorbs well, and leaves my hands feeling soft without being greasy. After just a few days, the dry cracks started healing up. I also love that it’s made right here in Alberta — you can tell it’s crafted with care."
Frequently asked questions
What is beef tallow?
Beef tallow is a clean, traditional fat rendered from beef (usually suet). When gently purified, it becomes a smooth, shelf-stable balm that closely mimics the natural oils in our skin.
Because it’s rich in vitamins A, D, E and K and contains skin-compatible fatty acids, it deeply nourishes, supports the skin barrier, and helps protect against dryness — especially in harsh climates.
Does it smell like beef?
No — When it’s carefully purified, it has a very mild, natural scent. We add a trace of essential oil to help give a refreshing scent.
Where do you source your tallow from?
We source our beef tallow from Alberta-raised cattle, working with trusted local suppliers who prioritize quality and responsible practices.
The suet is carefully rendered in small batches to create a clean, smooth balm that reflects our commitment to keeping Northern Hide rooted in Alberta craftsmanship.
